White women have been the main beneficiaries of affirmative action. But at the same time white women are some of the most vocal opponents of affirmative action. This contradiction seems to suggest that most white women still see their husbands and sons as the main bread winners of the family. Perhaps, then, we can better analyze the politics of white women based on preferences not just as individuals, but as households.
